Heather Shuckburgh, of Lendalfoot, has just returned from the trip of a lifetime to Mumbai, where she met with Plant and Animals Welfare Society charity founder Nilesh Bhanage and the PAWS team in Dombivli, a suburb of Mumbai…
SPONSORSHIP from Carrick businesses and a series of fundraising events during the summer gala days at Girvan, Maidens and Ballantrae made the trip to India possible.
According to the organisers, the whole team was so grateful to each and every bu
siness and individual in Girvan and the surrounding area who helped raise funds on their behalf.
Heather was delighted to end up with the following list of much-needed funding and equipment which was handed over to PAWS during the visit:
Sponsorship for Nilesh Bhanage, from PAWS, to attend the Animals For Asia Conference held in Bali from August 27-29.
A Toshiba laptop, to be used for schools and colleges educational programmes on animal welfare and environmental conservation.
A large pet transporter, already in use in one of the PAWS ambulances, and especially useful when having to quarantine canine distemper victims.
Two cat grabbers.
One pair of animal handling gauntlets.
Six safety muzzles.
An aviary net.
A large box full of veterinary supplies ranging from bandages to syringes, wound powder to flea treatments.
One Gardman nest box, being used as a sample for local production of others to assist the declining Mumbai sparrow population.
On her return, Heather told the Gazette: "Special thanks must go to Mr Sykes, of the Corner Veterinary Centre and Vivien Davison, of Exclusively Cats, Ayr, for their kind donations of veterinary equipment and all the other local business sponsors - ASDA, Caledonian Photography, Carrick Gazette, Co-Op, Girvan Pet Store, Alan Jeans Vet Services Limited, Mansfield Garden Centre, MDC Exports, Woodland Farm Shop and the Westin Turnberry Resort - whose individual sponsorship made this happen."
She added: "It just goes to show that a little effort and a lot of generosity makes the world a very small place!"
More information about PAWS can be found on the website www.pawsasia.org.
