DURING the holiday weekend a group of 28 members of the Girvan & District Town Twinning Association paid their annual visit to our twin town, Torcy.
This was a special year, however, as it is the 20th anniversary of our twinning.
Consequently we were joined this year by Councillor Alec Oattes and his wife representing Provost Winifred Sloan.
On the Saturday evening we enjoyed a display of dance, music and poetry from several groups including a Portuguese folk ensemble, followed by a banquet culminating in a pièce montante anniversary cake.
During the weekend one of our French friends, Claude Bouchet, celebrated both becoming 60 and a grandfather for the first time.
Claude was a member of the original group who came to Girvan 22 years ago to see if we would like to twin with Torcy and went on to hold the office of chairman for more than 15 years.
To mark this special celebration, Claude was presented with a Scottish passport and a kilt, which he donned with pride the very next day!
