Call for action over travellers
Not enough is being done by local councils to discourage travellers from using unauthorised camping sites in Scotland, a North-east MSP has claimed.
As official figures revealed a third of the travelling community were living without permission on public or private land, SNP MSP Brian Adam said a review of how local authorities deal with travellers making a nuisance of themselves was necessary to address public concern.
Mr Adam said: "In this latest travelling season, the repeated use of inappropriate, unauthorised sites like park-and-rides and public amenity sites has caused considerable concern among the settled population."
