Council issues plea for priority road upgrades
East Lothian Council have called on the government to fund the work after welcoming a multi-billion pound upgrade to the A1 between Berwick to Newcastle.
Council transport spokesman Michael Veitch backed the news but renewed calls for all of the A1 from Dunbar to the Border to become dual carriageway. He said a substantial upgrade to the City Bypass around Edinburgh was also needed, particularly at the Sheriffhall Roundabout and Old Craighall junction. Dual carriageway only exists on 30 of the 47 miles of the A1 between the Border and Edinburgh.
Cllr Veitch said: “The difference in road quality will give a poor first impression of Scotland – not what we want for new visitors.”
