Homophobic attack leaves victim with broken jaw

A YOUNG man was left with a broken jaw following a “homophobic” attack near a gay-friendly nightclub.

The 20-year-old was walking to get a taxi after leaving the GHQ club in Picardy Place, Edinburgh, at around 2:30am on Saturday when he passed a group of four men and a woman on Broughton Street.

The group are said to have made some “offensive remarks” before one of the men punched the victim on the side of his face, knocking him to the ground.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward.

The first suspect is described as a white man aged 18-19, around 5ft 7in, of small build and with light-coloured hair with the fringe swept to one side.

He was wearing light- coloured trousers.

The second man is also believed to be aged 18-19, 5ft 11in with black spiky hair. He was wearing a black zip-up top and white trousers and spoke with a local accent.

Police described the woman as being about the same age, with bleached blonde shoulder-length hair.

There is no description of the other two men.

A police spokesman said: “This was a totally unprovoked and homophobic assault that has left the victim with a serious injury to his jaw.”
