Elderly woman dies after car accident in Tesco car park

A PENSIONER has died after being knocked down by a car in a Tesco car park, police said today.

Catherine Keyes, 85, died yesterday after sustaining a head injury in the collision on Tuesday in the car park of the Tryst Road store in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire.

The pensioner was taken to Monklands Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Strathclyde Police said: "The woman was walking through the car park in the supermarket when she was struck by a vehicle, which is reported to have been reversing out of a parking space."

Officers appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Relatives have been informed and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
