Former chief urges firms to use innovation

THE former boss of business quango Scottish Enterprise is to urge Edinburgh firms to show more innovation at an event in the Capital next month.

Jack Perry, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise from 2004-9, said the city and Scotland generally was not doing enough innovating and could suffer as a result. He is due to speak further at the Innovation: Staying ahead of the curve business event at the Apex Waterloo Hotel on November 10.

"In tough times, innovation is more crucial than ever," said Mr Perry. "If money is tight, both within the company and in customers' pockets, you need to look at how you can improve your margin. How can you do more for customers without incurring additional cost?"

Also speaking is David Wither, the founder of the pub chain Montpeliers group and Craig Stirling, a partner in Charlotte Square-based law firm Davidson Chalmers.
