Great White of thunderstorms on Saturn

A HUGE thunderstorm, more violent than any on Earth, has been observed in unprecedented detail raging on Saturn.

The "Great White Spot" consisted of bright white ammonia clouds and spanned more than 10,000 miles. Judged by their radio wave emissions, the Saturnian lightning bolts were 10,000 times stronger than their counterparts on Earth.

They also occurred at an incredible rate, peaking at ten flashes per second.

Unlike the more famous red spot on Jupiter, Saturn's Great White Spot is not a permanent feature - it occurs only about once in every 30 Earth years.
