Man killed in Blantyre motorbike crash named

A MOTORCYCLIST who died after he lost control, was thrown from his bike and hit a bus was named by police today.

Alistair Babes, 42, died at the scene in Glasgow Road, Blantyre, yesterday.

The accident happened when he was riding his Suzuki motorcycle northbound close to a junction shortly after 5pm.

The father-of-two, from East Kilbride, had been a keen biker since his teens and throughout his life owned numerous types of bikes.

He leaves a partner of 20 years, a daughter, 18, and a son.

A Strathclyde police spokesman said: "It appears that he lost control and came off his bike. He then struck a Volvo bus which was stationary at the time.

"Emergency services attended but sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene."

Police said a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
