More leisure cuts 'on way'

MORE sports facilities will have to be closed in the Capital because of council cuts to Edinburgh Leisure's funding, it was warned today.

The Evening News revealed yesterday that the Crags Sports Centre will be the first Edinburgh Leisure facility to face the axe as the company faces up to a 347,000 funding cut next year.

However, it has previously been revealed that up to four centre closures could be needed and Councillor Gordon Munro, culture and leisure spokesman for the Labour group, said: "This is a direct consequence of the budget decision taken by council on September 16. I suspect this is not the only decision that will be taken as a result."

He added: "This is just the start and it is not all the savings that Edinburgh Leisure will need to make."
