By the article from Joseph Stiglitz. Firstly, fundamental problems were simply waved away as “arcane issues about monetary arrangements” or saying “another example of a non-issue is the currency”.
An economist of his experience should know that strong economic foundations of a country are vitally important. Get them wrong and serious problems appear – just ask the unemployed of Ireland (double the rate in Scotland) or Spain (four times the rate of Scotland). Secondly, someone at Columbia University in the US is clearly far too removed to see what a divided country Scotland has become in the last two years. There is no shared vision or values.
