The initiative calls upon people across the country to help preserve biodiversity including encouraging wildlife in gardens. Andrew Thin, chairman of Scottish Natural Heritage, said: "I'd like to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the wonderful nature in Scotland, and take the IYB pledge to 'do one thing' to help biodiversity. Perhaps take part in a wildlife survey, make your garden more bee-friendly, plant a window box or – here's an easy one – don't mow your lawn to help wildlife thrive."
