The Steven Gerrard factor is huge for Rangers when it comes to attracting players, whether it is from England or around Europe. Ex-Liverpool forward and current Dutch international Ryan Babel recently revealed he’d be happy to move to Ibrox simply because of who the manager is.
It gives the club a strong position when entering the transfer market. This summer is likely to be fascinating with comings and goings. There is an expectation with costs cut and players keen for a deal those individuals out of contract will be more open to look towards Scotland.

1. Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool)
Rangers could be on the lookout for a right-back. The England international requires a platform to build on after injury issues in the last couple of season. Photo: GLYN KIRK
2. Matty Longstaff (Newcastle United)
Broken through at Newcastle United this season, one of the few success stories. Magpies have been unable to tie him down to a new contract after the player switched agents. Could be tempted by European football. Photo: LINDSEY PARNABY
3. Chris Brunt (West Brom)
The Ulsterman was on the books of Rangers when he was younger. Would bring plenty of versatility and experience. Photo: JUSTIN TALLIS
4. Kieron Freeman (Sheffield United)
Has played just once in the league for Sheffield United in more than a year. Would be an attacking option at right-back if James Tavernier moves on. Can also play further up. Photo: Aitor Alcalde
