A minute’s silence will be held and black armbands worn out of respect for Mr Cully who, as well as playing prop forward for the British Police team, was instrumental in helping form the successful Murrayfield Wanderers women’s team. Club coach Bruce Aitchison said: “It is going to be an emotional occasion because Steve had very many friends at the club although latterly he was heavily involved with his young family and a police career. Everybody is convinced that the best way we can honour a great rugby man is to go out and put in a performance that will do his memory proud.” Mr Cully also had a playing stint with Stewart’s Melville who were once coached by his brother-in-law, Stewart Bennet, the former Kelso and South of Scotland flanker.
