Shinty: Ten of the best for cup holders Inveraray

INVERARAY opened their defence of the Macaulay Cup yesterday and it couldn't have been more emphatic, with Oban Celtic sunk 10-0.

The Argyll outfit conquered champions Kingussie in the 2009 final and were also victors in 2008 against Newtonmore.

Last year's captain Grant Griffin and top scorer Garry Macpherson were both in fine form, hitting four goals each. Chris Crawfrord and David Robertson completed the rout.

Kingussie, the side they defeated in last year's showcase, were also on song, defeating Kilmallie 3-0.

Ronald Ross grabbed a double with youngster Thomas Borthwick scoring.
