Tennis: Roger Federer faces Rafa Nadal in Madrid final

ROGER Federer set up a mouthwatering showdown with arch rival Rafa Nadal in today's Madrid Open final after dispatching David Ferrer 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 last night.

Federer will meet the Spaniard for the first time since beating Nadal in the 2009 Madrid final. That win sparked off a golden spell for the Swiss world No.1 as he went on to capture his first French Open crown before triumphing at Wimbledon.

Nadal, who has a 13-7 winning record against Federer, had earlier ensured he would regain the No.2 ranking next week when he beat unseeded compatriot Nicolas Almagro 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
