The plug is finally set to be pulled on an a series of outdoor pop and rock concerts in Edinburgh city centre - after city council officials agreed they could go ahead 12 months later.

More than 50,000 music fans had been expected to flock to Princes Street Gardens to see acts like Sir Tom Jones, Lionel Richie, Travis and Simple Minds.

However the Edinburgh Summer Sessions have now become the final major event of the summer in the city to fall victim to the corona virus pandemic after agreement was reached to reschedule the whole programme until next August.

Tickets for the series of concerts in August, which were also due to feature The 1975, McFly and Michael Kiwanuka, were still on sale last week, despite the cancellation of all of the city’s summer festivals.

However a council report published over the weekend revealed that are all now due to go ahead in the summer of 2021 instead.

Councillors have been told that the authority is working with the organisers of all events due to be held in the city this year to “mitigate” the impact of them being cancelled or rescheduled.
